Snow!

Les Gets has been covered with snow over the last few days - and according to www.snow-forecast.com the Portes de Soleil is set to have the largest snowfall in the world over the next three days.

Les Gets is a great resort for early season skiing, as all of the pistes are mown pastures, meaning that just a light snowfall renders them skiable. With a few more days of snow forecast and then a deep temperature drop, enabling the snow cannons to start working in earnest, things are looking bright for the resort.

We have been talking to Where to Ski And Snowboard - Britain's leading winter sports resort guide over the last few days - what a great resource! Hoping to meet up with them in the New Year and show them all of the new bars, restaurants, buildings and shops in Les Gets this year.

The phones have started ringing in earnest again, so if you are planning on booking a ski holiday with Alpine Inspirations this season you'd best act fast.

Les Gets skiing for winter 2012

With the Alpine drought at an end and snow building up, your thoughts should be turning to where to stay in Les Gets.

We have nothing left in December - so I am afraid all of those with hopes of a white Christmas will need it to snow in the UK. We do have some great chalets and apartments still available for January weeks however, and at good prices.

Just one week is left in Les Eglantines - the 14th-21st January at £1650, so be quick if you want to secure this spacious chalet just minutes from the slopes and the centre of town.

Other chalets available in January include the wonderful Chalet Celine, where we have slashed prices on January weeks to just £1500 for a limited time. The Loft is just £1700 for up to twelve people - a bargain self-catered ski holiday if ever there was one!

Our little hip-hotel, Chalet Manon has the 14th-21st January and the 21st-28th available at £1250 - it is beautiful and is ski-in/ski-out from the main Chavannes blue run. Wonderful.

Les Giboulees and Les Mures offer amazing value-for-money ski accommodation. Both are just a five minute walk from the slopes and are a great place to spend a family ski holiday.

Chez Rose must be the cutest rented chalet in Les Gets - sleeping up to five people it is an independent, detaches chalet on four floors - with a sauna! It is just £800 for the remaining January weeks.

For those preferring luxurious apartments in Les Gets how about Le Genepi - right in the centre of town, serviced and beautiful. Or we have Chalet Seven, which has access to a spa and swimming pool! Or the utterly fabulous Passa Franc - surely one of the most beautiful apartments you can rent in Les Gets right now?

Fish and Chip wars

Les Gets is poised for an exciting season, with the opening of several new eating and drinking venues.

JM and Rhona from Mamma's in Morzine, purveyors of fish and chips to the seasonnaires and holidaymakers of that town have taken over the Boomerang in Les Gets. They are going to open a fish and chip shop much like Mammas there as well as a tapas cum wine bar. Quite how they will make this work in the Boomerang space is intriguing and several locals have been pressing their faces against the windows to find out more. Only time will tell....

The Dublin Inn, no doubt annoyed by several years of confusion with the Irish Bar, is going to change its name to JC's Sports Bar. Still owned by local celeb Big Jim it will have a new manager, new staff and in the kitchen will be the team from Morzine's other fish and chip shop A&D. The new branding has started to go up and Jim will be opening soon.

Just a few steps away from the ever-popular Canadian and Irish bars in the centre of town is a new all-glass, circular bar in the style of Avoriaz's Chez Flo. This is called Ba Bar, owened by the Belle Alpe hotel and run by Ritchie from the Bowling Bar just down the road.

There will be a new wine bar a few steps down the road in the other direction too, in the space previously occupied by a t-shirts and sweets shop. There are other changes too - the restaurant La Remize is under new management, as is the Flambeau. Sadly the wonderful Snack Attack has gone, but  anew building is being erected in its place, so hopefully their great value food will be back in time for the snow. Exciting times.

We have one chalet still available for the week of the 31st December to the 7th January. It is one of the most popular and well-situated on our books and would make for the perfect ski holiday whether you are families or a group of friends.

Les Eglantines is a newly refurbished chalet on the Mont Chery side of Les Gets village. It has been interior designed to a high standard in a cool, modern style but retaining traditional chalet charm. It is an eclectic mix of old French antiques as well as all the modern comforts needed to make a holiday as relaxing as possible. It has a cozy Savoyard feel. As the chalet is located at the end of a quiet cul de sac there is plenty of off street parking for cars. The chalet is surrounded by its own private garden with beautiful views to the ski lifts opposite and the beautiful Savoyard village of Les Gets beneath. Located in the same tranquil building as our La Parisienne apartment, this is a really nice, cosy apartment for four people.

There is an entrance hall with useful cupboard space – skis may be stored with our friends at the ski shop next door if required.

There are two bedrooms. The master bedroom is a double with windows opening onto a view of Mont Chery. There is a chest of drawers and cupboard space in this room, which is wood-clad and very pleasant.
The second bedroom has a good set of wooden bunk beds and also benefits from cupboard space and built-in wardrobes.

There is a family shower room and a separate WC.

The kitchen is small but well equipped with a hob, oven, kettle, refrigerator and all of the utensils, crockery, glassware and cutlery you would expect. It occupies one side of the main room, the rest of which is the living room. This is furnished with comfortable seating and side tables. There are double French doors opening onto the two private gardens which are for the exclusive use of this apartment.

There is a private external parking space accessed using a remote fob.

Half term skiing in Les Gets

We have a just two properties left for british half-term 2012 - the 11th to the 18th February. 

La Parisienne is a really nice apartment in the old town of Les Gets. It is a quiet part of town, but very close to the slopes and shops. It has a large living area, overlooked by a long breakfast bar from the kitchen. There are comfortable leather sofas as well as a separate dining area. There is a bunk room, a twin bedroom and a master double bedroom. The master bedroom has a large and stylish ensuite shower room, and there is also a family bathroom. 

Passa-Franc is a brand new, luxury apartment in the La Turche area of Les Gets. There is a lift just a minute from the apartment, or you can ski down to the bottom of the popular Perrieres run to a six-man express. The apartment is beautifully decorated and has three bedrooms (two double/twins and one double). There are two bathrooms. The apartment has a huge balcony which catches the morning sun beautifully, and affords views over both Mont Chery and the Chavannes.

What's going on in Les Gets

There is a lot of activity taking place in the village at the moment, despite this being the heart of the off-season. There are quite a few new chalets and apartment blocks shooting up.

More interesting is that the ice skating rink is being put together, presumably in preparation for the French holidays at Toussaint - roughly around the time of the UK October half-term. There will be a few shops and restaurants open that would not usually be at this time of year.

The Shoppi supermarket is closed and being completely refurbished in advance of the winter season - who knows what delights it might hold for us in a few weeks?

Also, the lift company has started work on the complete redesign of the ski-school and the bottom of the main Chavannes Express lift and the red gondola. There will be a new ticket office here too we hear.

Christmas, New Year and UK Half-term ski holidays

Things are moving fast at Alpine Inspirations, and we are selling peak weeks for the winter 2011/2012 ski season. Across our self-caterd chalets in Les Gets we still have a few weeks still available to rent.

There are still two more chalets left to announce for next season, so keep an eye on this blog, our website, and our twitter account to ensure you get there first.

In the village there is much excitement about the last couple of weeks of the Summer season, and the forthcoming winter ski season. Hope to see you there.

Staff wanted

 Alpine Inspirations runs 16 self-catered chalets in Les Gets and provides property management services for 15 more in Morzine and Les Gets. We are looking for motivated cleaning staff for the winter 2011-2012 season, both on Saturdays and mid-week. 

We pay an hourly rate, run through our French business and we pay all French taxes, so you will be eligible for French social services. We do not provide accommodation, or lift passes, so the ideal candidates will be in resort already, or have their accommodation for next season already arranged.
