The summer activities that can be enjoyed in and around Les Gets are numerous:-

Mountain Biking

In the summer, Les Gets hosts many downhill mountain biking events. There are two distinct downhill mountain bike areas, one on each side of the village. The downhill mountain bike run on Mont Chéry has been used in the Mountain Bike World Cups in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and in the Mountain Bike World Championships in 2004.
If you don’t have your own, bikes and protective equipment may be hired in Les Gets and trail maps are available from the tourist office.

Cycling

The Tour de France is a unique spectacle and one of the world’s great sporting events that is greatly enjoyed by the French and visitors to the country during the first three weeks of July each year. The Tour regularly comes through or very near to Les Gets – most recently in 2006, 2009 and 2010 – and the local area contains some of the most challenging rides, including the unclassified Col de Joux Plane between Samöens and Morzine and lesser (but still strenuous) climbs up the Col de la Ramaz and the Col de la Colombière.
Amateur cyclists abound in our region during the summer and bicycles may be hired in Les Gets. The walking maps mentioned below will also be useful for those planning their cycling routes.

Walking

There are many signposted walking tracks in and around Les Gets and some of the lifts may be used to avoid a steep walk up from the village, so that the starting point may be from the Mont Chéry balcony (reached via the small white cable car) or the Chavannes mid-station (reached via the small “red egg” cable car.
There is also fine walking further afield, for example through the Vallée de la Manche to either Les Mines d’Or and onward to the Col de Coux (from where you cross over into Switzerland) or to the Col de la Golèse, or in Praz de Lys up to the Pic Marcelly or below the Pic around the lake.
Trail maps for the Portes du Soleil or Carte des sentiers à pieds et à cheval are provided by the tourist office and more detailed walking maps are also available from the newsagent opposite the tourist office (maps 3528 ET Morzine, 3429 ET Bonneville and 3530 ET Samöens being the most relevant).

Paragliding

Paragliding can be taken in tandem with a qualified instructor from the top of Mont Chéry and is a fantastic experience in fine weather. If you tend to suffer from sea sickness, this may not be for you, as thermal currents can sometimes mimic the effect of waves. However, if you have a strong stomach, the rewards are amazing. We can put you in touch with some excellent instructors who speak good English and can give you the ride of your life. If you have a video function on your camera, make sure you take it to record the flight.

Climbing and via ferrata

There are several climbing rocks for beginners near Les Gets, where you can learn the ropes, as well as climbing for the more experienced. A qualified instructor who speaks good English will provide all the necessary safety equipment. Via ferrata is rock climbing with a difference. Dressed in a harness with karabiner clips attached, a series of steel chains and iron ladders, bars and steps securely lodged in the rock enable you to climb and traverse a cliff face safely. Again, you are guided by a qualified instructor, but a head for heights and reasonable level of fitness and confidence is required.

Waterskiing and wakeboarding

A fine day out can be had by the lakeside at Sciez, just 40 minutes’ ride from Les Gets, where you can learn how to waterski and wakeboard with a qualified instructor or practise your skills if you are already a devotee. Transport from Les Gets to Sciez is provided.

Golf

Les Gets has an 18 hole par 70 golf course which is 5,264m long and overlooks Mont Blanc. There is also a driving range. In the winter, the course forms part of the pistes.

Swimming

The swimming lake is located by the schools and can be reached from the village by a bus or the Petit Train. An area around the perimeter of the lake is cordoned off and, within that, a daily fee is charged. There is a pebble beach and part of the lake is roped off for bathing supervised by a lifeguard. No dogs are permitted. Nearby, there is a small café/restaurant.

Adventure Parc

This is a series of high wire courses (rated from green to super black) in the tree tops that become progressively harder. There is a height limit for children on some of the courses. Boiler suits are provided to protect your clothing, as well as cotton gloves to protect your hands from the steel wires, and instruction is given on the safety harnesses and use of the karabiners. As the course becomes harder, there are “escape routes” if there are parts that you would rather not attempt (such as the Tarzan swing into the cargo net).

Trampolines and bungees

For smaller children, the lower part of the Chavannes slopes in the heart of the village play host to a series of trampolines and elastic bungees, which are always very popular.

Pony riding

The stables are located near the schools by the swimming lake and short rides are given around this area for younger children.

Tennis

The hard tennis courts are located on the left hand side of the road as you leave Les Gets heading towards Morzine. At busy times, they should be booked in advance.
